Jesus Deals with Doubting Thomas! - John 20:24-31

When He was on the cross Jesus proclaimed “tetelestai” – “It is finished” (John 19:30). What was finished? Everything it would take to reconcile sinners like you and me to God (2 Cor. 5:21). 
“For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.” -Rom. 6:5

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” -Gal. 2:20

Thomas withholds belief until he sees Jesus physically - V. 24-25

Jesus told him, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” - John 14:6

Thomas was loyal but questioning…that describes a lot of people I know! And that’s not necessarily a bad thing!

Thomas sees Jesus physically and confesses Jesus is God - V. 26-28

When we receive mercy and grace from Jesus, we can extend it to others!

Our greatest testimony usually has something to do with where our own wounded places have healed!

“Jesus, you are my Lord and my God!”

Thomas gets a bad rap as a doubter, yet he makes one of the most explicit claims to the deity of Jesus Christ in the Bible!

“Jesus wasn’t hard on Thomas for his doubts. Despite his skepticism, Thomas was still loyal to the believers and to Jesus Himself. Some people need to doubt before they believe. If doubt leads to questions, questions lead to answers, and the answers are accepted, then doubt has done good work. It is when doubt becomes stubbornness and stubbornness becomes a life-style that doubt harms faith. When you doubt, don’t stop there. Let your doubt deepen your faith as you continue to search for the answer.” - Life Application Bible Commentary

The call to believe without seeing Jesus physically - V. 29-31

Set apart the Messiah as Lord in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear…    -I Peter 3:15-16a

St. Thomas: He was called by this name in Syriac, but Didymus in Greek; he was an apostle and martyr, and preached in Parthia and India. After converting many to Christ he aroused the anger of the pagan priests, and was martyred by being thrust through with a spear. - Foxe’s Book of Martyrs

Do you know that Judas never referred to Jesus as his Lord? The other disciple named Judas did (John 14:22), and Peter did, and Thomas did, but not Judas.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. - Romans 10:9-10
