Psalm 112 Worksheet 

Like Psalm 111, this is a perfect acrostic poem, in which each line starts with the next letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Verses 1-8 have 2 letters each, and verses 9-10 have 3 letters each. 

The NKJV Heading reads, “The Blessed State of the Righteous.”

Psalm 111 praised God for His goodness and benefits toward the godly; Psalm 112 speaks of the _______________________ life a godly person. 

As I read the Psalm, look for the occurrences of the word WILL as we read. 

 

Note the connection between how Psalm 111 ends and how Psalm 112 begins: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments…Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments. 

Verse one helps us understand what it means to fear the Lord – those who revere Him delight greatly in His ________________________. 

The word for delights in verse 1 is Hapes (H2654); it’s sister word Hepes (H2656) is in Psalm 1:2 and Psalm 111:2. 

The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who have pleasure (H 2656) in them.      -Psalm 111:2

 

Verses 2-9 speak of the traits and blessings that will attend the man who fears the LORD. Note the use of the word “will” ___________ times! 

I love the aspirational phrase of verse 2 – the generation of the upright will be blessed. It is our prayer of course that both we and those who descend from us biologically and spiritually will have great _______________ on earth. 

Psalm 111:3 spoke of God’s righteousness; Psalm 112:3 says the godly man’s righteousness endures forever. Psalm 112:9 says a godly man will be honored, and his ______________________ righteousness endures forever. 

And he (Abram) believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.                    -Genesis 15:6

The Psalmist may have been more inclined to think of physical blessings (wealth and riches), but all of us who know the LORD know that _____________________ our blessings, naming them one by one includes far more than the bottom line in our bank accounts. 

 

Psalm 111:4 said the LORD is gracious and full of compassion; Psalm 112:4 says the godly man is gracious and full of compassion. 

That godly people are _______________________ people is reinforced twice in the Psalm (verse 5 and 9), along with their positional righteousness (verse 3 and 9). 

The godly man is looking to help all the people he can, beginning with those of his own _____________________! 

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those of the household of the faith.                                                                                                                        -Galatians 6:9-10

The Psalmist anticipates that a godly man who is generous will be remembered and ___________________ even after his life is over.

 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will pay back what he has given.                                                                                                                                        -Proverbs 19:17

 

Verse 5 said that the godly man guides his affairs with discretion, and is generous as able. Verse 6 said he will not be shaken. Verse 7 says he will not be afraid when bad news comes. All of these things remind me of the wise woman described in Proverbs ______________ – who first takes care of her own family and then helps meet needs in her community. 

But if anyone does not provide for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.                                  -1 Timothy 5:8

 

Verse 10 does not explicitly mention Hell for unbelievers, but does make clear that the wicked will see the coming ________________________ of fortunes and be grieved, gnash their teeth, and be uncomfortably hot. That makes us think of Jesus’ talking about the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31).
