Clashing Kingdoms                 Luke 4:1-15

Staff Sergeant Archer Gammon

The _____________ One Tempts the Holy One                   V. 1-2

That was Satan’s purpose in these temptations – to get Jesus to disqualify Himself as a Savior through sin. God the Father allowed this as a test – to ________________that Jesus was able to be the Savior.

The first temptation: the lust of the flesh                V. 3-4

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but it of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”                          -I John 2:17

Too often we don’t eat to live, we live to eat. And by constantly ____________ on the physical, we crowd out the spiritual. It is seen in our lack of prayer, time in the Bible, and godly decision making.

The second temptation: the lust of the eyes            V. 5-8

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.     -Gen. 3:6

Satan will try to get you to avoid suffering also. But when obedience meant suffering, Jesus ______________ it as part of serving God. The crown will come, but only after we take up our cross and follow Jesus!

The third temptation: the pride of life                      V. 9-13

The test had come, and Jesus was proved to be the Son of God. Satan would be back for more, but he would never defeat Jesus! Jesus is our ___________________ - Jesus is our Savior!

Hebrews 4:14-16

Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.             -Hebrew 7:25
