The O-I-A process of Bible Study:

O__________ – what does the text say, and why was it given to it’s first audience

I_____________ – what does the text mean, and what is the timeless principle

A________________ – how does the text apply in our world today

The Law of the Firstborn introduced                                                  V. 1-2, 11-16

The word firstborn appears _________ times in the Bible

Who is the best firstborn?                                 Matthew 1:25

Matthew 1:2 says begot, Gennao (1080); Matthew 1:25 says firstborn, Prototokes (4416); John 3:16 says one of this kind, or Monogenes (3439).

The word Monogenes was used 9 times in the NT, for only children and Jesus, and theologically of Isaac in Hebrews 11:17. Ishmael was of another kind; Isaac was “one of a kind.” Jesus was the __________ one of His kind, as in John 1:14.

For the believer, there is no turning back, but God is _________ us!  V. 17-22

God has beforeknowledge.

Instead of having Israel always living on the run, God puts them in position to face their _________________ of Pharaoh head on.

God is calling them to trust Him, and He is calling us to the same!

Pharaoh didn’t know Joseph, but God’s people and their faithful oral traditions remembered – so Joseph’s bones were taken with them!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. -Proverbs 3:5-6
