Let My People Rest!               Exodus 20:8-11

Luke 22:19-20                         Acts 10:13-15

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a feast day or a new moon or Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.   -Colossians 2:16-17

The fourth Commandment is _____________________ among the commandments because all three parts of the law, the Moral, the Priestly, and the Civil, are all three present in this commandment

There is a timeless moral principle here that absolutely must be followed by mankind- we are to _________________ at least one day out of every seven

Genesis 2:1-3

For Israel the civil part of the commandment was to apply the seventh day on their Sabbath day

Deuteronomy 5:15

There is a priestly part of the Sabbath that was fulfilled in ________

Matthew 5:17

Jesus is the priestly fulfillment of the Sabbath like he was the fulfillment of feasts like the ___________________!

And just as Melchizedek predates the Law’s particular Levitical Priesthood restrictions, the seventh day to be observed by all men predates the Law’s particular Sabbath restrictions for Israel

For Christians there is no _______________________ way we must obey this commandment- that we are to rest is sure, how we are to rest is open, although we have this example…

Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.”      Acts 20:7

“On the first day of the week let each of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.”            I Corinthians 16:2

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.      Rom. 14:5

What the Fourth Commandment is really about is the Sanctity of ___________________

Could I tell that God is first in your life by looking at your calendar?

Is church day just another day you cram full of activity?

Are you so busy running between activities that you never really give yourself fully to what you are doing at the moment?

Each week you need one regular day of extended rest, time to think about God’s blessings of creation and redemption, and not do any work

You must learn to say ______________ to some activities that do not fit with your priorities, so that you can rest and recharge for greater effectiveness in the things that God has called you to.

Write ______________________ over what you are not able to accomplish and start the week fresh with rest and worship.
