Verse 2 reminds us of 1 Timothy 2:8 – “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”

Why do you think David and Paul both extolled lifting up holy hands to the Lord?

 

David asks God to ________________ with those who work iniquity V. 3-5

David prays for justice here – unrepentant sinners who hurt God’s people deserve to be judged, to be cursed. Such curses are called “imprecations.” Thus we speak of imprecatory ___________________ in the Psalms.

God receives glory through saving repentant sinners, but He also will receive glory through judging unrepentant sinners.

It is not wrong to pray for God to justly deal with those who sin against God and God’s people – but it is not the _________________ thing we pray for them – we pray they will repent and become one of God’s children like Paul did.
