Genesis Chapter 19

The sin of Sodom’s residents                                                                             V. 1-11

This illustrates an important Biblical Principle: often the answer to a question in a passage becomes clear by looking closer at the _______________ of the passage.

What trait do we see Lot show in verses 2-3 that Abraham modeled in chapter 18?             _____________________

Verses 4-7 show how wicked the men of Sodom were.

All sex outside the covenant of marriage is sinful. But the Bible gives the further descriptors to homosexual sex of abominable and unnatural because it is against the Creator’s _____________________ of Genesis 2:21-25.

Narrative literature in the Bible records what happened but does not necessarily endorse the decisions people made. Another important Bible reading principle is that narrative literature must be understood in light of _____________ passages.

“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”  -I Tim. 5:7

Verse 9 shows us an example of the world’s one-way version of ‘____________.’

God doesn’t always ___________________ in bad situations in this life, but He does enough in the Bible to let us know that He always can!            Daniel 3:16-18

The judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah                                                         V. 12-29

The Principle is true today also – God will judge sin – the time to repent is running out.             2 Peter 2:4-10

Help me reconcile how verse 8 says Lot’s daughters were virgins with verse 14 that says they were married.

Verse 17 has a good word for us – when you are leaving sin city, __________   __________   __________!

God keeps His Word – He destroys Sodom and Gommorrah      -Gal. 6:7

Lot’s wife shows where her ___________ is, and gets turned into a pillar of salt.

The origins of Moab and Ammon                                                                     V. 30-38

The life of Lot is interesting to think about – Lot was a _______________, but at the same time was called righteous and godly.

We have already read of how Abraham was justified by his faith and received imputed righteousness (Genesis 15:6). Lot must have received that imputed righteousness as well.

Anyone who gets to Heaven will be there based on Christ’s work, not their own!

But this passage should also challenge us because it shows that abundant living comes down to adding character based __________________ to our faith.

It’s obvious that Abraham did some things Lot didn’t do – and Lot’s lack of wise

For this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. -2 Peter 1:5-8
